Compliant, 60-minute fire-rated corridor walling and welfare spaces to protect workers

The construction of 40 Leadenhall Street is one of the City of London’s most ambitious recent developments, combining a striking contemporary build  with the restoration of a Grade II listed neighbour. With active crane operations, protected pedestrian corridors, and welfare facilities to deliver at pace, Mace needed a fire-rated screening solution that could keep up with the programme without compromise.

Working closely with the Mace team, Westgate Global specified Hoardfast Firescreen and PVC systems for two distinct applications: forming compliant, 60-minute fire-rated corridor walling to protect workers moving through the site, and enclosing welfare facilities across multiple levels.

Fire-rated corridor walling and crane hoarding for Mace at 40 Leadenhall Street

Active construction sites in central London demand solutions that are fast to install, fire-rated, and built to protect the people working within them. At 40 Leadenhall Street, principal contractor Mace required a compliant screening system capable of forming protected corridors to welfare facilities and enclosing crane areas, without slowing down the build programme.

Working with their longstanding supply chain partner Westgate Global, Mace specified Hoardfast Firescreen: a modular internal screening system with a 60-minute fire rating, available freestanding or fixed, and designed for rapid deployment on complex construction projects.

Fire-rated protection and welfare spaces

Westgate Global has worked with Mace on numerous occasions, and with an established track record of delivering on demanding programmes, was consulted to provide a solution that met both the technical and logistical requirements of the project.

Hoardfast firescreen: rapid deployment, certified protection

Active construction on a high-profile City of London site demands screening solutions that can be deployed quickly, meet fire safety requirements, and protect workers without impeding the wider programme. Mace required a 60-minute fire-rated system to form protected corridors leading to welfare facilities and to enclose crane areas across the site.

Westgate Global supplied and installed 230 linear metres of Hoardfast Firescreen — a modular internal screening system engineered for rapid deployment in demanding construction environments.

Panels are 80mm thick, steel-faced with a mineral wool core, and carry a 60-minute fire resistance rating to Euro Class EN 13501-2:2008, achieving an A2 s1 d0 classification and EI60 fire resistance. The system can be installed freestanding using Westgate Global’s unique weighted universal support, or fixed floor-to-ceiling, providing the flexibility to suit varying conditions across a large, active site.

Hoardfast PVC: Welfare spaces built for a live environment

Alongside the Hoardfast Firescreen installation, Westgate Global also installed Hoardfast PVC panels to form toilet cubicles across multiple levels of the project. The lightweight, modular internal hoarding system is quick to install, making it ideal for creating welfare spaces and site rooms.

With 40 Leadenhall achieving a BREEAM Excellent rating, the sustainability credentials of the products specified were equally important. Hoardfast PVC is manufactured from 85% recycled materials and is fully recyclable at the end of its working life.

The completed installation delivered compliant, fire-rated protection across the site, from crane enclosures and worker corridors to welfare facilities. By providing both Hoardfast Firescreen and Hoardfast PVC as a single, coordinated supply-and-install package, Westgate Global removed complexity from the project and gave Mace a trusted partner to rely on for every element of the temporary works screening.

Learn more about Hoardfast PVC

40 Leadenhall is a landmark project in every sense, and Mace needed a partner who could match the pace and complexity of the programme. We've worked with Mace on numerous projects, so we understood from day one that they needed fast deployment, certified fire protection, and no disruption to the wider build. Supplying and installing 230 linear metres of Hoardfast Firescreen alongside the PVC welfare spaces as a single coordinated package meant Mace had one trusted point of contact for all their temporary works screening. That's exactly the kind of value we aim to bring to every project.
