Hoardfast modular hoarding for contractor welfare at a major London office fit-out

BW, a leading fit-out and refurbishment company, required a fast, sustainable and professional contractor welfare solution for their fit-out at 1 Finsbury Avenue — one of the City of London’s most celebrated office developments. Westgate Global supplied and installed Hoardfast, a modular hoarding system manufactured from 85% recycled materials, to create a full suite of site facilities including offices, meeting rooms, changing areas, toilet cubicles and a dedicated multi-faith room. The system was assembled quickly, reconfigured as the project evolved, and recycled at the end of the project.

BW are a fit-out and refurbishment company working with occupiers, asset managers and consultants to deliver high-quality workplaces across London and the South East. When they were appointed to deliver a major fit-out at 1 Finsbury Avenue — a Grade II listed, six-storey office development in the heart of the City — they needed a contractor welfare solution that matched the quality and values of the project.

BW approached Westgate Global, who supplied and installed Hoardfast: a modular, reusable hoarding system that could be assembled quickly, reconfigured as the project evolved, and removed without generating any waste. The result was a clean, professional suite of contractor facilities that supported a diverse, on-site workforce throughout the fit-out.

A welfare setup that reflects the project’s values

1 Finsbury Avenue is no ordinary building. Designed by Peter Foggo with Arup Associates and completed in the early 1980s, it was the first building in the Broadgate development — a scheme that transformed this part of the City. In 2021, Stirling Prize-winning architects Allford Hall Monaghan Morris carefully reimagined the Grade II listed building, delivering a striking workplace featuring a light-filled town square, a 3,000 sq ft roof terrace with views across London, ground-floor restaurants and an Everyman Cinema.

With BW appointed to deliver the fit-out across the six storeys, the project called for a full range of contractor facilities: site offices, meeting rooms, changing areas, welfare spaces and toilet blocks. Any solution needed to be set up quickly, adapted as the project progressed, and taken down without creating skip waste.

BW also had a more specific requirement. As a company that actively promotes a diverse and inclusive culture, they wanted to provide a dedicated contemplation and multi-faith room, a private, quiet space where contractors of different faiths could pray and reflect safely throughout the working day.

Sustainability mattered too. BW have a firm commitment to reaching Net Zero by 2030, and place carbon at the centre of how they specify every project they are involved in.

Hoardfast: fast to install, easy to adapt, built to last

Westgate Global recommended Hoardfast as the ideal solution. Manufactured from 85% recycled materials and fully recyclable at the end of its working life, it was a natural fit for a client with BW’s environmental commitments. Its modular design meant the system could be assembled rapidly, reconfigured as site demands changed, and removed at the end of the project with no waste created,  addressing BW’s sustainability requirements at every stage.

Working with BW, Westgate Global designed and installed a full suite of contractor facilities, including a changing area, site office, meeting rooms, toilet cubicles and — importantly — a dedicated contemplation and multi-faith room. Using Hoardfast, it was straightforward to create a partitioned, private space that was clean, quiet and safe: a practical expression of BW’s inclusive culture, and something the team were proud to provide for their workforce.

The professional appearance of the finished installation was another key factor. BW are known for their attention to detail and high standards on site, and Hoardfast delivered a polished, well-presented facility that reflected this throughout the project.

In total, Westgate Global supplied and installed 118 linear metres of free-standing Hoardfast PVC panel, 13 linear metres of Hoardfast Budget panel, and 8 single doors.

“BW needed a contractor welfare solution that was fast to install, easy to adapt and produced to the right standard, with no waste and no defects. Hoardfast gave them a flexible, sustainable system that they could configure to suit their site, including a dedicated space for prayer and reflection. It’s a great example of temporary infrastructure being taken as seriously as the permanent fit-out it supports.”
