PD Ports is a major UK shipping and logistics company that owns and operates the Ports of Tees and Hartlepool. When they needed a cost-effective way to divide storage areas within their facility, they approached Westgate Global. Impressed by the product’s quality, the depth of experience behind it, and the competitive pricing, PD Ports chose Flexiwall as its solution. The project was completed on time and on budget, from order to finished installation in ten weeks.
PD Ports trust Flexiwall for dust and contamination control
PD Ports owns and operates the Ports of Tees and Hartlepool, one of the UK’s most significant logistics hubs, under the Teesport name. With large-scale storage operations, the company was looking for a cost-effective way to divide storage areas within its facility to control dust and cross-contamination.
PD Ports approached several suppliers before selecting Westgate Global, drawn by the combination of competitive pricing, product quality and proven expertise in fabric partitioning. Flexiwall‘s ability to achieve an over 99% dust-tight seal through its unique v-overlap joining system made it the natural fit for a project where contamination control was the primary goal.
A partition designed for the environment
Port and logistics environments are demanding. High ceilings, existing structural features, heavy traffic, and the need to maximise floor space all influence the type of partition required. Flexiwall offered an ideal solution – it can be configured to any building size or shape, has a small footprint, and can be installed cleanly around existing ductwork and pipework, leaving no gaps at the edges or around openings.
For this project, PD Ports selected a heavy-duty FR 850 blue fabric from floor level to 3.5 metres high. As well as providing robust protection against accidental damage from moving vehicles in a busy logistics environment, it also delivered a clean, smart finish. Above 3.5 metres, a translucent FR 630 P fabric was installed to the roofline, maximising light between zones and keeping the facility bright and operational.
A row of cleats at the 3.5-metre join allows the lower section to be removed or replaced independently at any time, without disturbing the rest of the partition, a practical detail that protects the long-term value of the installation.
Two double-skin, powder-coated steel pedestrian escape doors with vision panels and closers were included to maintain safe movement between areas, and Westgate Global also supplied and installed new Armco crash barriers on both sides of the partition, providing a fully integrated solution from a single supplier.
