Custom temporary hot aisle containment panels for Winthrop Technologies
Sector: Data Centres
Company: Winthrop Technologies
Location: Sweden
Overview: Hot Aisle Emulation for heat load testing
Solution: Custom-designed temporary hot aisle containment infill panels (Flexiscreen)
Westgate Global, experts in partitioning and screen solutions, assisted Winthrop Technologies, a prestigious data centre delivery partner, in providing a bespoke solution for their hot aisle containment (HAC) commissioning needs. The commissioning of the aisle containment is a vital step in the development of a data centre, as systems are tested to ensure they can cope with the heat servers produce.
HAC systems are used to create a barrier that guides the flow of hot and cold air around servers. During the commissioning phase, before the servers and HACs are installed, load banks and temporary aisle containment emulation is used to simulate servers and permanent HACs, to test the set up and performance of the data centre’s cooling systems. This is where Westgate Global’s expertise and problem-solving reputation was called upon.
Westgate Global custom-designed temporary hot aisle infill panels using reinforced coated PVC fabric – the soft construction ensured no scratching of the finished floor or ceiling. This robust screen was pre-engineered to provide a professional system that was extremely quick to install. A quick to install system accelerates the commissioning programme – helping the project stay on track.
Our solution also saves time by having all openings and vents pre-manufactured into the system. This allows commissioning engineers to control the airflow into the area, without having to cut and patch holes throughout the test.
Air pressure checks are carried out during the design phase, to ensure the structural integrity of the system so the heat load testing can be carried out efficiently. Thanks to Westgate Global’s decades of experience, our screens can be pressure tested to ensure compliance and reliability during testing.
The panels are reusable and able to be used across multiple data halls and centres – making the infills cost effective over multiple reuses and a large reduction in the amount of plastic waste generated. Also, future bids can be made more competitive.
Our client’s requirements covered two areas; 20 aisles per area, 6 panels per aisle, 240 panels in total. The design consisted of three identical panels on each side of each aisle, with 2 zipped roll-up panels and 2 resealable window flaps.
This innovative solution keeps the client’s whitespace damage-free and ultra clean, even during installation, as the panels are designed to be clamped to the existing frame and ceiling, so no fixing into floor or ceiling is needed, reducing dust. (Options are also available for when there is no HAC frame in place).
Westgate Global are market leaders in partitioning solutions. The team’s industry knowledge and adaptable product range make them ideal partners for many data centre projects throughout commissioning, maintenance, expansion, or component replacement stages.
