Temporary fire rated hoarding and construction weather screen for office redevelopment
Company: Wates
Location: Halifax, West Yorkshire
Overview: Phased hoarding and screening maintain energy efficiency and site welfare.
Solution: Hoardfast uPVC Hoardfast Firescreen Hoardfast Flamescreen and Flexiscreen
Westgate Global successfully partnered with Wates to deliver a tailored package of specialist hoarding systems and temporary weather screening at the Halifax bank headquarters redevelopment in Halifax, West Yorkshire. The project aimed to accelerate the construction programme while ensuring protection from the elements, maintaining site welfare standards, and improving energy efficiency during the early phases of work. As a trusted Wates Innovation Network partner, Westgate Global was selected for its proven expertise in delivering rapid install internal and external systems, suited to complex construction environments.
With the building’s external façade due for replacement, a temporary but effective enclosure was required to safeguard the internal environment against weather ingress and heat loss. Westgate Global’s combined use of Flexiscreen and Hoardfast panel systems provided a robust solution, offering essential thermal insulation that significantly reduced the need for temporary heating. This enabled Wates to maintain internal temperatures, proceed with raised access floor installation, and commence internal fit-out work without delay.
The installation was executed in three main phases:
- Basement and mezzanine welfare areas: These key welfare zones required weather-resistant, enclosed spaces for operatives. Hoardfast Firescreen was installed around the perimeter to create a secure external boundary with a 1-hour fire rating, ensuring a safe division between the welfare areas and active construction zones. Internally, Hoardfast uPVC panels were used to form clean and durable internal walls.
- Weather and dust screening: Flexiscreen acted as a temporary screen across building openings to prevent wind, rain, and dust from entering the structure, helping maintain a clean and dry internal environment during construction.
- Temporary lobby: A dedicated lobby space for the construction hoist was created using Hoardfast Flamescreen. 60-minute fire rated panels were not needed for this area, but the panels provided essential insulation and durability for external use, helping to minimise heat loss and withstand the elements.

This modular, phased approach enabled Westgate Global to deliver a flexible, efficient installation with minimal disruption to ongoing works. The clean, quick-to-install solutions supported Wates in maintaining programme timelines, ensuring on-site welfare, and achieving cost efficiencies through reduced energy demands and simplified internal climate control.
